A decent night in the moth trap with an Early Grey (Xylocampa areola) – one of the first moths to emerge each year – and a Flame Shoulder (Ochropleura plecta) which has 2 generations – 1 in April and 1 in September.

Caterpillar
in the gardenFound this beauty while doing some pruning (rather, The Boy found it). Hard to ID but I suspect it’s a Yellow Underwing (Noctua pronuba). One of our most abundant larger moths, according to UK Moths.
Night 1, moth trap 2.0
in the gardenThe first version of the DIY moth trap didn’t really work, so I upgraded with a plastic dog collar from the vets to raise the height of the baffle to the top of the bulb. And it worked a treat with 6 moths, of 6 species!
Pupa
in the gardenFound this loose in the garden. Assume it’s over-wintered but I don’t know what it’s going to be so going to keep an eye on it on the off-chance that I catch it emerging.
